Alfa Anderson, a vocalist known for her work with the iconic 1970s disco band Chic, has died. She was 78. Niles Rodgers, founder of Chic, shared the news in an Instagram post on Dec. 17. “RIP Alfa Anderson.

Alfa Anderson, who lent her lead vocals to the seminal, Grammy Hall of Fame-inducted Chic track "Le Freak," has died at the age of 78.

An early vocalist for "Chic" and featured on some of the group's classic tracks, Alfa Anderson died at 78 on Dec. 17.

In a never-published interview from 2013, late disco queen Alfa Anderson talked about the rise, heyday and end of Chic and the band's lasting impact.

Anderson toured the world performing Chic's No. 1 hits, and sang backup for legends like Luther Vandross and Mick Jagger.
