Scotland, which has the highest rate of recorded drugs deaths in Europe, is opening a new facility for users to inject illegal drugs under medical supervision.

It has been more than 10 years in the making but Glasgow’s Safer Drug Consumption Facility will finally open on Monday. The centre to be called The Thistle, will open its doors in Hunter Street in the East End at 9am for the first people to come in and take their own drugs under supervision.

Glasgow romped to a five-try 29-19 victory over Racing 92 on Friday to reach the Champions Cup last 16, condemning the French strugglers to a fifth successive match without a victory.
