In a motion filed Heuermann argued he should be tried for the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello and Megan Waterman and then put on trial again for other murders.

Accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann has asked a judge to break up charges in the murders of seven women into multiple trials.

Rex Heuermann, the suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer, was charged with a seventh murder last Tuesday, with prosecutors alleging that the  killings occurred in his Massapequa Park basement in New York.

The two-week adjournment was sought to allow prosecutors time to respond to a defense request to exclude DNA evidence from the case.
