Another powerful storm system is expected to sweep across a wide swath of the United States, bringing heavy rain to Southern California, heavy snow to parts of the West and Midwest and more snow and freezing rain to the Northeast and New England.

Clouds start to move back into Acadiana on Friday ahead of another round of storms expected to push across the region on Saturday. Those clouds may give way to a few spotty showers Friday afternoon but any rain we get will be fairly short lived and most of the day will stay dry.

Strong tornadoes are possible across the South as storms pass through the Gulf Coast region. Some locations could see half a foot of rain, worsening flooding.

A winter storm that blanketed parts of the Midwest and Northeast with heavy snow and ice also unleashed severe weather, including tornadoes and damaging winds, across the South and Southeast on Wednesday.
