If you drop a pin on an unnamed location in Google Maps, click the popup at the bottom of your screen to pin it. Click the Save button to save the pin. Select the list where you want to add the pin.

In the Google Maps mobile app or desktop version, tap on the X button in the search box that appears as soon as you drop a pin. Or tap/click anywhere on the screen, and the location will be unpinned.

Open Google Maps, and find the location on the map where you want to drop the pin. Zoom in as much as possible, so that you can see the location clearly.

Google Maps has a re-center button to let you return to your current location on the map. But the pin you just dropped isn’t necessarily near that position.

To do this on a mobile device, simply launch the Google Maps app and tap your starting point that doesn't already have a pin. On the Dropped Pin card that shows up onscreen, select Measure Distance.
