Michigan football swung but missed with the initial Bryce Underwood sweepstakes, with the 2025 Belleville (Mich.) five-star quarterback and No. 1 overall recruit in the class committing to LSU back in January. However, the Wolverines redoubled their efforts, and have worked behind the scenes to pry Underwood off of his pledge to the Tigers.

Sources told the Free Press that Michigan had offered a four-year Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deal worth nearly $10 million, including win-based and championship-based incentives. Underwood, a 6-foot-3,

Illinois is 6-3 and fell out of the top 25 after a home loss to Minnesota on Nov. 2. The Fighting Illini's 3-3 record in Big Ten play puts them one game up on Michigan State, who sits at 2-4 in a crowded middle of the conference. This is a prime opportunity for Michigan State to steal one on the road in its quest for a bowl berth.
