Kansas City will be under a winter storm warning from 6 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Monday as a major winter storm will make travel nearly impossible.

Winter storm watches are already in effect for the metro’s extreme western counties on the Kansas side. The watches start around Jefferson County and stretch south to Anderson and Franklin Counties. The watches are for 12 p.m. Saturday until Sunday at 6 p.m.

This year’s event is shaping up to be KCRW’s biggest yet, with more than 230 restaurants across the metro participating.

Friday is the last full day to prepare as freezing rain, sleet and snow make their way to Kansas City and the area starting Saturday.
