The National Park Service stays out of the debates about crowd sizes — including for President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.

The question of attendance numbers is likely to draw particular scrutiny. Throughout his 2024 campaign, Trump has consistently emphasized rally crowd sizes, making this inauguration's attendance figures a closely watched metric of public support.

National Park Service Director Chuck Sams made history on day one in office in 2021, by becoming the first Native American to lead NPS.  Sams is Cayuse and Walla Walla and an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

The inauguration will take place Monday, Jan. 20, at the United States Capitol Building, with Trump expected to take his oath around 12 p.m., according to the National Park Service. The event will be aired across various major broadcast networks, including ABC, CBS, CNN, CSPAN, Fox News, MSNBC, NBC and PBS.

Scheduled for late January, presidential inauguration ceremonies always take place during a chilly time of year at the nation’s capital. The normal high temperature for the day is 45 degrees, and the normal low temperature for the day is 30 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said he ordered the inauguration to be moved inside. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inauguration Ceremonies said in a statement that they’ll honor his request.
