A 76-year-old man who went into hiding following a 1982 bombing and allegedly assumed the identity of his dead college classmate was arrested this month at his home in New Mexico after a standoff with law enforcement.

Stephen Craig Campbell is accused of using the name of University of Arkansas classmate Walter Lee Coffman, who died in a car accident months after graduating.

After more than 40 years on the run, a bombing suspect accused of using a dead classmate’s identity to dodge law enforcement and claim government benefits has been arrested in New Mexico.

Stephen Craig Campbell was accused of planting an explosive device at the doorstep of the boyfriend of his estranged wife. He hid as Walter Lee Coffman, who was dead almost 50 years, the authorities said.
