Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball head coach Jim Larrañaga – the winningest head coach in program history – has stepped down from his position in the middle of his 14th season in Coral Gables, Florida. His decision comes less than two years after he led Miami to its first men’s Final Four.

Larranaga is the winningest coach in program history and in the midst of his 14th season coaching Miami, where he has accrued a 274-174 overall record. His head-coaching resume dates back to the 1980s where he first became head coach at Bowling Green.

Jim Larrañaga — a winner of 744 games — will step down as coach at Miami, effective immediately, later today, AP source says. Bill Courtney will be promoted to head coach for the remainder of the season. News conference this afternoon following team meeting.
