WASHINGTON (AP) — Opera tenor Christopher Macchio will sing the national anthem at the President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration before a much smaller crowd than he was expecting, a letdown with a silver lining.

The president, 78, tapped Christopher Macchio to perform the national anthem. Described on his website as “America’s tenor,” Macchio, 46, has a long history as a concert singer and almost as long of a history of supporting Trump.

Macchio has performed for Trump before, including a campaign rally at Madison Square Garden in October and a New Year's Eve party at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort.
