So, by those statements, it would seem that Buzz Lightyear was originally a real man living in the same world as Andy. Well, according to MacLane, that may not necessarily be true.

It seems that in 1995, Andy, the young hero of “ Toy Story,” was given a Buzz Lightyear action figure as a present. That was because he’d seen a Buzz Lightyear movie and loved it.

“Lightyear” is an OK movie. Chris Evans as the voice of this version of Buzz is a nice touch. But there’s just no magic here. And magic is an essential ingredient of the best Pixar films.
