A hunter fatally shot a Baton Rouge man who was also hunting in the Sandy Hollow Wildlife Management area near Kentwood on Saturday, officials said. Roberto Garcia, 61, was hit around 8:45 a.m. with a .45-caliber muzzleloader and died before first responders could arrive, the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said in a news release.

For the second time in six days, a hunter was shot by a fellow hunter in Louisiana, only this time it was fatal, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reports. It happened around 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, in the 4.655-acre Sandy Hollow Wildlife Management Area, about an 80-mile drive northeast from Baton Rouge.

A Louisiana hunter was cited for two violations after accidentally shooting another hunter, who he mistook for a deer, while they were both on the same "small" property.

“Agents have learned that neither hunter was wearing any hunter’s orange and did not possess deer tags,” state wildlife officials said. “Agents cited the shooter for hunting deer without possessing deer tags and not wearing hunter’s orange.” Additional charges are possible, officials said.

While Baton Rouge was the only MSA in the state that saw a decrease in jobs from October to November, the MSA still saw significant gains year over year. Baton Rouge lost 200 jobs from October to November,
