Indian stock market benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50 fell 0.80% in intraday trade on January 9, marking the second consecutive session of decline due to weak global cues and rising US dollar and bond yields.

Indian benchmark indices are trading lower at noon. Both Nifty and Sensex are down 0.6%. The benchmark Nifty 50 will see volatility on Thursday's weekly expiry.

Indian equities on the F&O expiry day opened atfer a weak close in the previous session. At the start, Nifty traded weak by 0.21 per cent or 49.65 points at 23,639.3, while the Sensex was down 0.28 per cent or 215.

With the dawn of the Q3 FY25 results, the Indian stock market opened lower on Thursday as selling was seen in the auto, IT, PSU bank and financial service sectors.

This also comes at a time when the rupee hit an all-time low, though its drop was attributed to both volatile domestic equities and a strengthened US dollar

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a negative start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 23,721 level, a discount of nearly 60 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.
