Among a collection of bills signed into law over the weekend, U.S. President Joe Biden approved legislation to rename the post office in Plains, Ga. after recently dead former President Jimmy Carter and the late First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

The U.S. Postal Service facility on Main Street in Plains will now be known as the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Post Office.

"From the Plains Peanut Festival to the Governor’s Mansion, to the White House—and to communities around the globe—they remained grounded and humble, and Plains always remained home in their hearts.”

Millions of Americans from the Plains to the East Coast faced the threat of blizzards, heavy snow, treacherous ice and freezing rain through Monday, the National Weather Service said on Saturday. Governors in Kentucky and Virginia declared states of emergency ahead of the winter storm.

The developing storm system is forecast to bring heavy snow, crippling ice and severe weather across the country through the next three days.

A widespread winter storm has prompted blizzard and winter storm warnings across numerous states from the Plains to the mid-Atlantic.
