Have you ever heard of the Japanese microseasons? The traditional Japanese calendar splits the year into 72 seasons, instead of four, to describe how the natural world changes throughout the year. The first season begins this week - Harukaze kōri o toku, or “East wind melts the ice.” We’ve been seeing that recently in the Water Pavilion Garden as signs of spring begin popping up.
