If you fish Long Lake in the Spokane area, you may see WDFW boats on the water from late March through June, as we partner with Avista to expand annual efforts to remove carp from the lake in order to improve water quality. We caught lots of those, but the traps also attracted larvae and juveniles from various other species — including this baby East Pacific red octopus in Tokeland! Looking for something to do in the Tri-Cities area? WDFW’s Ringold-Meseberg Hatchery is located just south of the Hanford Reach. Each year they raise 3.7 million fall chinook to be released in late spring or early summer, along with 250,000 yearling coho salmon and 180,000 yearling steelhead.
